University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) was established in 2003 through the UPES Act, 2003 of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand. The university is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The varsity is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It is also known as UPES Dehradun. The campus of the varsity is spread over an area of 44 acres. There are a total of 561 faculty members at the university. As per the official website, UPES Dehradun's mission is to develop industry-focused professionals.

 It offers a total of 173 courses at diploma, UG, PG and doctoral levels. UPES got the 46th position in NIRF Ranking 2021 in the management category whereas it was ranked 66th in the NIRF Ranking 2020 in the management category. In the NIRF Rankings of 2021, the university has been ranked 25th in the law category. According to NIRF Rankings, the university has been ranked 91st in the engineering category in 2021 whereas it was ranked 167th in NIRF Ranking 2020 in the same category. The university has secured the 100th rank in NIRF University Ranking 2021. 

The diploma and undergraduate pharmacy courses offered by the university are recognised by the Pharmacy Council of India. The Bar Council of India has recognised law courses of UPES Dehradun. B.Tech Chemical Engineering and B.Tech Automotive Design are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The university offers admission on merit and entrance exam basis. University of Petroleum and Energy Studies Dehradun has collaborated with numerous overseas universities. Some of them are the University of Adelaide, University of Calgary etc.

The 44 acres campus of the university has numerous facilities available for students. UPES Dehradun Admission

The varsity offers admission to diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated and doctoral courses. UPES Dehradun admission to B.B.A, B.Com (Hons), B.A. (Hons), B.Sc. (Hons) and dual degree programmes is given on the basis of marks obtained in 12th standard and performance in a personal interview. The university accepts JEE Main/UPESEAT scores for admission to the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programme. University of Petroleum and Energy Studies admission to M.Tech. and L.L.M courses is given based on GATE and ULSAT-LLM/CLAT PG scores respectively.  The application form of the university can be filled by visiting the admission portal.

UPES Dehradun Scholarships

The university provides a variety of scholarships to students. The varsity has special scholarships for girls students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In addition, a special Covid  warrior scholarship is also provided to students whose parents are in Covid duties. University of Petroleum and Energy Studies Dehradun scholarships are offered to candidates based on their academic performance. As per the scholarship policy of the university, UPES Dehradun scholarships are offered to a limited number of students. Students are also provided scholarships based on their scores in entrance examinations such as JEE Main, NIFT, GATE etc. One student can only avail one scholarship at a time. 

UPES Dehradun Placement

Every year various companies such as Adani, Amazon, Jindal Steel, Cisco etc. participate in UPES Dehradun placement drive and provide jobs to students. The Enhanced Development Growth and Enrichment programme (EDGE) of the varsity trains students for the placement drive. Mock interviews, soft skills training etc. are conducted to prepare students for the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies placement drive. In the year 2020, more than 560 companies from various domains participated in the placement drive of the college. As per the placement report 2020, as many as 2318 students were placed and the average package offered to them was Rs. 5,25,000.
